陶瓷绘画作为一种艺术表达逐渐脱离了陶瓷装饰的范式约束,开始成为独立的陶瓷艺术形式。近年来在艺术家们的积极参与和大力推动下,陶瓷绘画的艺术语言、工艺理念、学术思想已经形成了较为清晰的研究脉络。众多以陶瓷绘画为概念定位的学术展览的推出,使陶瓷绘画的学理性得到了业界的广泛认同。基于这样的学术背景,值此“2021景德镇国际陶瓷艺术双年展”之际,举办《融合——景德镇国际当代陶瓷绘画提名展 》平行展。平行展以“融合”为主题,以独立展览的形式展示中外艺术家陶瓷绘画的当代面貌和最新成就。

“融合”是中外艺术家共同参与的融合;是陶瓷材料与当代艺术理念的融合;也是陶瓷艺术与时代精神的融合;更是传统陶瓷文化与现代思想的融合。陶瓷绘画根植于深厚的陶瓷文化传统,基于当代的艺术思想和时代精神,形成了集工艺与艺术之精粹,语言丰富、特色鲜明、形式多样的独特面貌。特别是近些年来很多当代艺术家参与到陶瓷绘画的创作中,他们把新的学术思想和理念通过陶瓷媒介进行表达,打破了陶瓷艺术的专业局限性,改变了人们对陶瓷艺术的审美观照,拓宽了陶瓷绘画的内涵和外延,突出了陶瓷绘画的当代学术语境。

在多元文化交流的当下,艺术跨界与交融所形成的学术理念,使当代陶瓷绘画的人文情愫和精神力量在与泥火交互的嬗变中得以生发。陶瓷绘画有其独具的特点,若将其置身于整个陶瓷历史的进程中加以考察,不难发现其绘画之雏形源于工艺,而绘画性则是源于当代。如果抛开工艺谈绘画,则陶瓷绘画没有特色可言;如果只谈工艺不谈绘画,则陶瓷绘画的概念也不复存在,因此,只有将工艺性与艺术性进行完美结合,才能够对于陶瓷绘画进行正确的诠释。艺术家们在陶瓷绘画的创作中,通过对泥与火的完美演绎,充分彰显了陶瓷绘画的工艺魅力和艺术品格,用一幅幅具有个人风格的作品呈现出了当下陶瓷绘画的创作状态。

此次展览以提名的方式邀请国内外从事陶瓷绘画的50位知名艺术参展,主要是从创作技艺、传承方式,时代创新等诸方面进行考量,将工艺性和材料性,时代性与审美性并置其中,倡导时代新象、百花齐放。提名展将为陶瓷绘画的学理性研究提供多样性案例,在探寻陶瓷绘画的语汇和研究路径上留下不可或缺的印记。

The Curator’s Prologue of Fusion: Jingdezhen International Contemporary Ceramic Painting Nomination Exhibition, the parallel exhibition of The Spirit of Ceramics: 2021 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale

As an artistic expression, ceramic painting has gradually broken away from the paradigm constraints of ceramic decoration and begun to become an independent ceramic art form. In recent years, with the active participation and vigorous promotion of artists, the artistic language, technical craft and academic ideas of ceramic painting have formed a clearer research context. The launch of numerous academic exhibitions based on the concept of ceramic painting has made the logic of ceramic painting widely evident in the ceramic field. Based on this academic background, on the occasion of 2021 Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale, a parallel exhibition--Fusion: Jingdezhen International Contemporary Ceramic Painting Nomination Exhibition--is held. With the theme of “fusion”, the parallel exhibition showcases the contemporary appearance and latest achievements of ceramic paintings by Chinese and international artists in the form of independent exhibition.

“Fusion” is the fusion of Chinese artists to international artists, of ceramic materials to contemporary art concepts, of ceramic art to the spirit of the times, and of traditional ceramic culture to modern ideas. Rooted in ceramic cultural tradition and based on contemporary artistic thoughts and the spirit of the times, ceramic painting has formed a unique face with rich languages, distinctive features and diverse forms, integrating the essence of craftsmanship and art. In recent years, contemporary artists have come to participate in the creation of ceramic painting. They have expressed new academic ideas and concepts through ceramic media, braking the professional limitations of ceramic art and changing people’s aesthetic perception of ceramic art. They have also broadened the representation of ceramic painting and highlighted its contemporary academic context.

As the world is getting increasingly multicultural, the academic concepts formed by the crossover and integration of art have enabled the humanistic sentiment and spiritual power of contemporary ceramic painting to emerge in the interaction of clay and fire. Ceramic painting has its own unique characteristics. When we examine the ceramic painting in the course of the entire ceramic history, it is not difficult to find that the embryonic form of painting originates from crafts, while the artistry of painting can only come in modern times. If we talk about painting without mentioning its crafts, then ceramic painting is striped of its particular characteristics; but if we only talk about crafts without mentioning its artistry, then the concept of ceramic painting no longer exists. Therefore, only when crafts and artistry are addressed equally can we interpret the ceramic painting in a correct way. In the creation of ceramic painting, the artists fully demonstrate the craftsmanship and artistry of ceramic painting through the perfect interpretation of clay and fire, and represent the contemporary status quo of ceramic paintings with works of distinctive individuality.

This exhibition invites 50 well-known domestic and international ceramic painters to participate in the exhibition by way of nomination. By focusing on the creative skills, inheritance methods and current innovation, and at the same time, juxtaposing craftsmanship, artistry, materiality and aesthetics, this exhibition aims to advocate new art forms of the times that interact and contend with each other. It will also provide diverse cases for the academic research of ceramic painting, and leave an indispensable imprint on the exploration of the unique language and research methodology of ceramic painting.
