April 23 2012. Beijing - The CEIBS Beijing Campus Library was officially opened today. The opening ceremony was attended by CEIBS Vice President and Dean Prof. John Quelch, Associate Dean Prof. Xu Dingbo, Assistant President Ma Yusheng, Information Centre Director David Xue, Professor of Economics and Finance Xu Xiaonian, as well as members of the EMBA 2012 spring classes and staff from the Beijing Campus.

Director Xue, who presided over the opening ceremony, noted that the new library would provide great support to the learning and research activities of students and faculty. Small, but perfectly laid out, the 350-square-meter library boasts abundant reading resources with clearly-defined functional areas such as the e-resources area, printed resources area, reading zone, help desk and group discussion room.
Directing his comments to the students in the audience, Dean Quelch next affirmed that the opening of the library would make more learning resources available to them. “Books are important to students, just as musical instruments are to a band,” he reflected, adding that the library will also allow the Beijing-based faculty to make greater contributions to academia and research, and they will be able to pass this knowledge on to their students.
Assistant President Ma Yusheng expressed his wish that the students would make full use of the library’s resources.
To conclude the ceremony, Dean Quelch, Beijing Office Vice-Chief Representative Ms. Xiao Bin and two student representatives jointly unveiled the plaque to mark the opening of the facility.
About CEIBS Beijing Campus Library
The design of the new library is based on the concept of an information hub, and it can effectively support a wide variety of research by faculty and students. It has a total area of 350m2 and all areas of the library have free wireless internet access. There are also 30 reader spaces which provide a quiet and comfortable study environment. Other library facilities include areas for both electronic and print resources, a reading room, reference desk and discussion area. There is also another library at the Shanghai campus.
The print resources of the Beijing campus library include reference books such as dictionaries, encyclopaedias, yearbooks and maps, English textbooks about economics and management, classic Chinese and English books, and Chinese and English journals.
Using a high speed network connection between the Shanghai and Beijing campus, most of the library e-databases can be accessed directly on the Beijing campus. These include journal articles, industry analysis, macroeconomic data, company research, English e-books and videos on demands. The library at CEIBS Beijing also offers e-newspaper touch screen and computers with the programmes Winds and CEIC installed.
The library will be open from 11:00am to 7:00pm, Tuesday to Sunday except public holidays, and is closed on Mondays. If students have special reasons to use the library when it is closed, they can apply for an extension of the opening hours.
The library at the Beijing campus offers other services such as photocopying, printing and discussion room reservation. Furthermore, students and faculty on the Beijing campus can apply through e-mail or in person for services including book circulation, reference service, user training, inter-library loans and document delivery services from the library at the Shanghai campus.
