First “Accounting Culture Festival” Opens

On April 17, the 1st “Accounting Culture Festival” sponsored by the Accounting Society of our School with special support from the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants opened. Director of the Department of Accounting Jianqiao HONG, Professor Ruoshan LI, Professor Jian GUO from the School of Law, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants Mr. Tommy Wong, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Charge of Student Education and Training Ms. Josephine Yau, Partner at the Shanghai Accounting Department of Ernst & Young Joanna ZHOU, guests from Deloitte & Touche and PricewaterhouseCoopers attended this opening ceremony.

Based on the activity’s spirit of “pioneering and inheritance”, the 1st “Accounting Culture Festival” of our University relying on the academic resources of our School, especially the Department of Accounting, is intended to promote accounting culture and enhance awareness of the accounting industry.

Professor Jianqiao HONG said in a speech at the opening ceremony that as China’s first higher education institution to establish the educational system of business administration, our University created the business discipline in as early as 1917, and officially set up the School of Business in 1929. As one of the School’s departments and institutes, the Department of Accounting has cultivated a considerable number of well-known accounting scholars, certified public accountants and senior management talents both at home and abroad. The School’s long history will give the culture festival more abundant contents and profounder meanings. He sincerely wished the 1st “Accounting Culture Festival” a complete success.

In the following summit forum, Professor Ruoshan LI from the Department of Accounting and Professor Jian GUO from the School of Law, focusing on the theme of “stories of accounting and law”, discussed the history of accounting and law and the relationship between them in depth from the perspectives of “internal control and external control”, “checks and balances”, etc. in combination with current financial and legal issues, and envisioned how the development of the accounting and legal industry will influence China’s future economic development.

The two guests’ brilliant analysis won a lot of applause from the audience, and this opening ceremony ended successfully with the closing of the summit forum. This “Accounting Culture Festival” from April 17 to April 28 includes one week of “first experience” activities and one week of “new experience” activities, providing opportunities for teachers and students to learn about and integrate into accounting in an all-round way through activities such as forums, lectures and matches.
