*Belgium's Vlerick Leuven Gent Management School is launching an English language Executive MBA programme in Moscow. The school already runs a part-time MBA at its St Petersburg campus. The Moscow EMBA will start in October 2011.

*Copenhagen Business School has fired its president, Johan Roos, because, it says, he had "lost his esteem" at the school (although this was later softened to him "no longer having the full support of the university"). The news comes after a joint executive MBA programme offered between CBS and SIMI, a private provider, was rejected by the Ministry of Science. SIMI, to the surprise of CBS, had not been reaccredited after its accreditation had lapsed six months ago. It is unclear whether the 45 students who have passed through the programme will have their degrees accredited.

Mr Roos had been attacked in the Danish press not only for the failure of the joint project, but also for allegedly damaging the school’s reputation after a series of controversies. According to a report (Danish) in the newspaper Information, these include allegations that he had attempted to undermine the unions at the school by forcing a representative to resign, and had rejected a renowned researcher for a job at the school “arousing astonishment” among the staff. The school said that it accepted that many researchers hadn't felt appreciated by the old leadership. The issue, it claimed, may have been that Mr Roos was used to working at smaller business schools such as IMD in Switzerland and the Stockholm School of Economics, rather than a large, broad-based school such as Copenhagen.

Alan Irwin, the school's dean of research, is to act as the interim dean until a successor is found.
